What to do if an opossum got inside my house, bedroom, kitchen, etc.?
It's certainly an eventful day when a wild animal enters your house. In the blink of an eye, the tranquility of your home is shattered, with every member of the household simultaneously contributing to the commotion, with some who are far more "sensitive" towards the animal than others, screaming even when it makes the slightest of moves. Well, an opossum in the house is not that big of a deal. Or, at least not as big of a deal as some other animals running around in your house (alligators anyone?). So, the first thing you need to do is tone down the excitement and focus. You obviously don't want the opossum to stay in your house for an extended period. Here's what you need to do to get it out.

Safety first
Before you do anything, you need to follow some safety precautions. First close all doors leading out of the room the opossum is in, save the ones leading to the exit. Tell everyone to back away from the opossum, especially the kids, with only one person approaching it. Wear gloves; an opossum may not be the most dangerous of animals, but it may still choose to defend itself if it feels threatened. Once you're ready, there's only really three ways to deal with it.

1 - Using tools to capture it
Living in the 21st century has its perks. One of them being the availability of so many tools to solve all of our everyday problems. Including opossums in your house. You can use a snare pole, a tool specifically designed to capture animals instantly, all the while keeping them a safe distance from the operator. Or, if you're a little patient, you could even use a cage trap with bait, and safely carry out the animal once you've caught it. Whatever way you choose though, remember to relocate the animal, or hand it over to people who can take care of it for you.

2 - Taking matters into your own hands…. Literally….
If you're feeling rather courageous, or really can't find a good tool, you could also try and use your hands to remove the animal. Just grab it by the tail and carry it outside, keeping it as far as you can from your body as you do so. Though unless the opossum is really small or not actively aggressive, this isn't recommended; you're wearing gloves, but you want to avoid getting bitten altogether.

3 - Shoo! Shoo!
Just take a broom and wave it in front of the opossum, "guiding" it towards the exit. It's that simple really.
